Rough Draft Atlanta is partnering with Community Farmers Markets to let you know what’s in season at your local market. Each week, we’ll share a list of ingredients that are farm fresh, along with a couple of recipes that include those products.
Here’s what you’ll find in the way of produce at the farmers market this week: Radishes, kale, collards, Swiss chard, broccolini, arugula, spinach, strawberries, asparagus, bok choy, green garlic, spring leeks, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, turnips, beets, lettuce/mixed greens, celery, microgreens, green onions, gourmet mushrooms (oyster, lion’s mane, shiitake), herbs (parsley, chives, green onions, cilantro, dill, rosemary), ginger, turmeric, and carrots.
Look for these specialty items: Foraged foods (nettle, locust flowers, Japanese knotweed), pecans, smoked salmon and trout, flowers (tulips, mixed flower bouquets), plant starts, pastured pork, wild caught shrimp, eggs, goat + sheep cheese, milk, jam, chocolate, honey, oils, tea blends, cold pressed juices, hot sauce, vinegars, nut butters, spice blends, ghee, pickles, pasta, tortillas, apple cider, and bone broth.
Atlanta non-profit Community Farmers Markets (CFM) has been building community through farmers markets since 2011. Operating weekly outdoor farmers markets as well as rotating farm stands are strategies by which the organization addresses food access in Atlanta. CFM also offers educational programming in the community, financial incentives to make local food more affordable, and professional development for small businesses.
See y’all at the farmers market!

Turnip Taco Recipe:
Ingredients:
- Green garlic
- Hakurei turnips
- Dandelion greens
- Mango Thai-basil pepper preserves
- Apple cider vinegar
- Cooking oil
- Flatbread
Directions:
- Start out by cutting the turnips in smaller pieces (quarter the small ones and cut the larger ones to match that), and roughly mince your green garlic.
- In a medium high heat pan, put about 1/2 tablespoon of your oil of choice and add the turnips. Cook until starting to get brown in some spots.
- Turn stove to medium and add green garlic, cooking for 1-2 minutes. Add 1.5 tablespoons of jam and stir while it melts.
- Remove from heat. Steam your dandelion with some apple cider vinegar while you heat your flatbread in a dry pan.
- Once everything is done load up your “tortilla” and enjoy!

Diakon Radish Spring Salad Recipe:
Ingredients:
- Daikon radish
- Mint
- Green onions
- Spring salad mix
- Any kind of orange citrus
- Local honey
- Tamari or soy sauce
- Grated or ground ginger
- Any kind of vinegar or lemon/lime
- Gochugaru (Korean pepper flakes) or red pepper flakes
- Salt
Directions:
- All ingredients for the vinaigrette can be roughly measured. Leftover dressing can be saved.
- In a small bowl, grate 1 TSP ginger, zest 1/4 TSP orange, squeeze 1/4 C orange juice, 1 TB vinegar or lemon/lime, 1 TB honey, 1 TSP soy sauce, and as many red pepper flakes as you like, as long as the consistency is of a vinaigrette.
- Whisk vigorously. Salt to taste.
- Slice your daikon radishes into matchsticks, or as thinly sliced as possible. Mandolins are perfect for this if you have one, but a vegetable peeler or knife works just fine.
- Next step is cutting or peeling away orange slices.
- Chop green onions and pick mint leaves off stem.
- Grab your salad greens and toss the oranges, radishes, green onions, and mint together with light drizzles of the vinaigrette without weighing the salad mix down too much.
- Enjoy!
