More than 100 women, armed with tiles, dice, racks, and 2026 cards, converged on Dunwoody United Methodist Church on April 30 for a dual purpose – to engage in a few friendly games of Mahjong and support women diagnosed with breast cancer.

The organization, Pink Box Partners Inc., “was born from the hearts of 11 women who each shared a deeply personal connection to breast cancer,” held the event, called “Mahjong for a Mission.”

The proceeds from the fundraiser will help purchase pink boxes filled with beauty and self-care items, cozy blankets, and handwritten notes of encouragement to be delivered to women fighting breast cancer, either during diagnosis or post-surgery.

“No woman should feel alone in this fight,” Pink Box Partners said in the organization’s promotional materials. “With kindness and community at our core, we strive to uplift spirits and ease the burden of diagnosis – one pink box at a time.”

Co-founder and President Holly Covington said she was gratified to see the turnout at the inaugural event.

“Tonight was truly special! So grateful for all the incredible women who showed up for ‘Mahjong for a Mission,'” Covington told Rough Draft. “The evening was full of laughter, generosity, and heart – and because of them, Pink Box can reach even more women facing breast cancer.”

Covington thanked her board, the event chair Pam Bolton, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, and Jenn Martel, the owner of Atlanta Mahjong Mentors, for their generosity in making the evening a success.

Karen Courtney, an attendee and one of the volunteers who helps pack the gift boxes, said she loves “knowing they are going to brighten a person’s day by receiving one.”

“Pink Box Partners has been founded by a wonderful group of caring and dedicated women,” she said.

Pink Box Partners will host a “Fill the Box” luncheon and fashion show on October 21 at Dunwoody Country Club, featuring clothing from Village Threads.
