The communications director for Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says he and his fiancée are thankful to be alive after someone fired dozens of rounds into their southwest Atlanta home early Thursday morning.
According to Atlanta police, officers responded to a report of shots fired on Wellington Street SW around 12:46 a.m.
Investigators say two men fired at least 30 rounds into the home while Robert Sinners and his fiancée were asleep inside. Despite the barrage of gunfire, no one was injured.
Channel 2’s Michael Seiden visited the home on Thursday, where Sinners pointed out bullet holes stretching from the front of the house to the kitchen. Several rounds pierced walls and windows, and one even struck a board game inside the home.
“We’re still confused why 30 shots hit our house last night,” Sinners said. “Scariest thing we’ve ever had happen to us.”
He confirmed to Channel 2’s Justin Gray that he was home when the shots were fired.
Sinners said he initially thought there were only a handful of bullet holes.
“First I saw one gunshot, and then I saw another, and another,” he said. “Today, as we’ve counted up, there are at least 30 gunshot holes in the side of my house.”
He said he is especially grateful no one inside the home was hurt.
“No animals, no people harmed. So we’re so thankful for that,” Sinners said.
According to police, witnesses told officers they saw two men firing toward the home before running away. Officers found shell casings nearby and spotted two men matching the suspects’ descriptions. After a brief foot chase, officers took both men into custody. Police said they recovered a firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition from one of the suspects.
The suspects were identified as Gregory O’Neal Vaughn, 26, and Jermaine Darcel Howard, 29. Both remain in custody with multiple charges pending.
Police said the investigation remains active. Based on the preliminary investigation, investigators do not believe the shooting was politically motivated. Authorities cautioned that the information is preliminary and could change as the investigation continues.
