Atlanta theater company Theatrical Outfit (TO) has revealed its 50th anniversary season plans: a yearlong celebration of performing arts, under the theme “Changing Generations,” that TO said will reflect its “rich history and exciting future.”
“For 50 years the cornerstone of our work has always been the creativity and artistic brilliance of Atlanta artists,” said Matt Torney, TO’s artistic director.
“From humble beginnings in a converted laundromat in Virginia Highlands, to our wonderful theatre on Luckie Street, Theatrical Outfit’s work spans multiple generations of Atlanta talent that are deeply invested in our community. In our work this season we want to celebrate that spark of connection, offer actors exceptional material to sink their teeth into and look ahead to the next 50 years.”
As part of the landmark occasion, the theater is showcasing a total of five mainstage productions, consisting of “bold classics and modern masterpieces,” according to TO.
The mainstage season opens with Fences by August Wilson, running from Sept. 16 to Oct. 4, 2026. A co-production with Dominion Entertainment Group & Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the play explores the funny and heartbreaking portrait of an American family.
Following Fences is a holiday collaboration between TO and The Atlanta Opera called All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914. Playing throughout the month of December, the musical tells the true story of soldiers who temporarily stopped fighting during World War I.
In 2027, the season continues with What the Constitution Means to Me (Feb. 24 to March 21), The Children (May 19 to June 13) and concluding with Death of a Salesman (Sept. 8 to Oct. 3), based on the classic 1949 stage play of the same name.
In addition to its mainstage productions, Theatrical Outfit is continuing its work in spotlighting the next generation of artists through its Made in Atlanta initiative, showcasing four world premiere productions as part of the program’s annual Launchpad festival, as well as displaying other creative works from up-and-comers throughout the season.
“Since its launch, our Made in Atlanta program has been an incubator for getting new stories into the world,” said TO’s Associate Artistic Director Addae Moon. “… We take pride in the fact that TO is providing a new home for the development of new narratives that have a transformative impact on audiences in Atlanta and beyond.”
Outside of the productions, Theatrical Outfit plans on hosting a variety of special events that “honor all of the leaders and artists of TO’s past,” headlined by an anniversary gala on April 17, 2027.
“Reaching 50 years is an extraordinary milestone and it belongs to every artist, staff member, board member and audience member who has been part of this journey,” said Vanya Foote, TO’s managing director.
Season packages and single tickets are now on sale through Theatrical Outfit’s website.
