Norcross nonprofit First Senior Center of Georgia is commemorating its ninth anniversary on June 14 with “9 Years of Dedication – Celebrating Seniors with Love,” expected to draw more than 1,200 guests.
“For many immigrant seniors, aging in America can mean isolation, language barriers, and limited access to critical resources,” the nonprofit said in an announcement. “For the past nine years, First Senior Center of Georgia has worked to change that reality. What began as a small community effort has grown into Georgia’s largest Vietnamese senior-serving organization, helping thousands of older adults remain connected, supported, and engaged in their communities.”

Outdoor festival for the whole community
This Sunday’s outdoor festival will feature carnival-style games, interactive activities, and 11 themed food stations showcasing a diverse selection of freshly prepared dishes. It will be held at the First Senior Center of Georgia in building 500 at 5555 Oakbrook Parkway
Throughout the four-hour celebration, staff will host special ceremonies honoring the dedicated senior members, caregivers, volunteers, and employees whose support has strengthened the nonprofit and its service to the Vietnamese senior community in Gwinnett County and metro Atlanta.
FSCofGA CEO Von Tran said seeing the positive impact on the lives of thousands of Vietnamese seniors in Georgia and throughout her community makes her the most proud.
“Many of them no longer live isolated lives on the sidelines of society,” Tran said. “Instead, they have found friendship, purpose, better health, and a renewed sense of joy by becoming active members of a caring community. Seeing those transformations over the past nine years is our greatest accomplishment.”
Today, FSCofGA is a lifeline for low-income seniors, offering crucial services such as language support, food pantry assistance, benefits enrollment aid, senior wellness programs, affordable housing support, end-of-life care, transportation, and crisis management.
Each year, it distributes 1,800,000 pounds of food, provides 50,960 trips for seniors to access crucial services, and helps more than 2,000 households with financial assistance.
The nonprofit’s announcement says its ninth year marked another significant milestone for FSCofGA, “A Night of Vietnamese Immersion,” its first-ever, black-tie gala that exceeded expectations.
The evening, which organizers say exceeded expectations, featured authentic decorations, authentic performances, delicious Vietnamese food, and a live auction. The event raised more than $325,000, with sponsors including Northside Hospital, Explore Gwinnett, and the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia.
