The City of Brookhaven’s Stormwater Division is seeking participants for its annual Storm Drain Marker Volunteer Event on Aug. 15, beginning at 8 a.m.
This year the project will focus on the Brookhaven portion of the Pine Hills neighborhood in District 4, according to a release from the city. Volunteers will meet at Shady Valley Park at 2720 Shady Valley Dr NE.
“The event is a community stormwater education and pollution-prevention effort. Volunteers will identify storm drain inlets and place informational markers reminding residents that stormwater entering the drainage system can carry pollutants directly to local waterways. The event also provides an opportunity to educate residents about keeping items such as litter, grass clippings, chemicals, and other pollutants out of the stormwater system,” said Brookhaven Public Works Director Jeffrey Littlefield.
Volunteers will glue placards to storm drains reminding residents that “No Dumping” helps to protect the environment. The City of Brookhaven will provide all materials needed for this event.
Volunteers are asked to show up at 8 a.m. to assist with non-HOA streets or 9 a.m. to assist with HOA streets. RSVPs are not required.
