Since 2018, the nonprofit Idea Capital has proven that point by partnering with philanthropist Susan Antinori to provide a stipend to mid-career Atlanta painters, sculptors, ceramicists and printmakers. We have details on how to apply for the Susan Antinori Visual Artist Award’s next cycle.
At Inman Park’s Whitespace Gallery on a recent Saturday afternoon, photographer Constance Thalken sat down with High Museum of Art curator Gregory Harris to talk about “Heart of a Bird,” a series of photographs she took over five years on the road in the late ‘80s, now being published as her debut monograph this fall. We have highlights from that conversation.

Talking ‘Heart of a Bird’
🐊 At Whitespace Gallery, photographer Constance Thalken told High Museum curator Gregory Harris how photographs from a five-year road trip through Gulf Coast towns became “Heart of a Bird” – her debut monograph, published over 30 years after she shot the work.
