After nine years of daytime parties beloved by Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ community, Chaka Khan Hacienda is coming to an end.
After the upcoming event on Sept. 27, Chaka Khan Hacienda will be put on pause, founder Ree de la Vega wrote on Instagram Sept. 10.
“I’m incredibly proud of what Chaka has become and how much it’s grown. But bigger isn’t always better,” de la Vega said. “As the party got bigger, it also got more expensive, more complicated, and, honestly, more impersonal. I miss when Chaka felt like we were all actually in the same party together.”
Chaka Khan Hacienda started as a free weekly day party at the now-closed restaurant 8Arm. After the restaurant’s closure, the party moved to Pullman Yards in Kirkwood and now resides at Underground Atlanta.
As Chaka has grown in popularity, costs have risen. In 2025, de la Vega told Georgia Voice that a Chaka party cost upwards of $19,000, and what was once a free weekly party became a ticketed monthly event.

In her Instagram announcement, de la Vega said that the future of Chaka Khan Hacienda is unclear.
“I don’t know exactly how or when or where Chaka comes back or, to be honest, it it does [come back], but I really want to thank everyone who’s ever come out over the years and rolled with us through all the changes, as well as everyone who’s helped put on the event.”
De la Vega is currently the owner of Pisces, a popular music-driven nightclub on Edgewood Avenue.
