One student is dead, and another was wounded in an Oct. 19 shooting incident on the campus of Atlanta Technical College.
According to a report from the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to 1560 Metropolitan Pkwy SW around 8:45 a.m. in reference to a person being shot. Upon arrival, officers located a male student deceased inside a bathroom from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers also located another student who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, who was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the student found dead in the bathroom accidentally discharged his firearm, striking the other student in the leg. The student then fled the classroom and entered a bathroom, where he sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.
APD said the investigation remains ongoing. On Tuesday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased student as Donald Silva, 60.
