Fernbank Museum of Natural History is inviting Atlantans to experience the coolest story on Earth.
Planet Ice is an immersive experience, revealing the powerful influence ice has had in shaping our planet and human history.
“The exhibit reveals a time when massive glaciers dominated the land and ancient creatures roamed wild, taking visitors on a fascinating journey across 80,000 years of Earth’s history,” said the museum in a news release.
It has interactive displays and over 100 specimens, artifacts and models, including authentic tools and other artifacts, life-like sculptures of Neanderthals and two “magical moments” that create the illusion of a woolly mammoth and American lion emerging from a snow-filled landscape.
“Through dramatic Ice Age megafauna and cultural artifacts, Planet Ice encourages guests to explore how life has both changed and endured over time,” said Fernbank’s Manager of Public Programs, Maria Moreno, in a news release.
“With this lens, we can look more closely at the connections between past ice ages and the world we live in today, as well as the future.”
Planet Ice is Fernbank’s first special exhibit of the year, starting Feb. 7.
Titans of the Ice Age opens the same day in the Giant Screen Theater, transporting audiences 20,000 years into the past through stunning depictions of monumental glaciers, fierce ancient predators and the early humans.
