Lag B’Omer event welcomes unexpected birth of lamb
🪿 Attendees at the Jewish celebration of Lag B’Omer on May 5 at Dunwoody’s Congregation Ariel gathered to pet sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, and bunnies, but got more than they bargained for when Mable the sheep suddenly gave birth to a little lamb.
Mable, according to Cricket’s Mobile Petting Zoo owner Jessica Franklin, was thought to be sterile because of an earlier infection. Mable had only been at the zoo for a couple of months, and a sheep’s typical gestation period is about five months.
The four-pound lamb was named Ariel by the congregation, which means “Lion of God” in Hebrew.

Emory Hillel launches literary magazine
🖋️ Emory Hillel Director Lee Shaffer heard students when they craved a creative outlet. HAKOLOT is designed, written and edited by students and features original artwork from Josephine DeMarco, artist in residence.
1️⃣ In its inaugural issue, students explore Judaism in pop culture, interview a woman taken hostage on Oct. 7, 2023, and publish short stories and poems.

“How’s the rabbi?” one asked in a message. “Is he still scheduled for surgery?”
“We are still waiting for the doctor to check if it’s still needed,” came the response.
But there was no surgery, authorities say, and there was no rabbi. Instead, prosecutors allege, the men were referring to Amazon’s impending acquisition of the vacuum company iRobot, hoping to trade on what was then still a closely guarded secret. According to a pair of federal indictmentsunsealed last week, the deal was one of dozens leaked to a criminal network that used Jewish code words to plan their investments.

🎗️ Abraham “Abe” Foxman, an attorney, activist, and longtime national director of the Anti-Defamation League, died at 86 on May 10. A child survivor of the Holocaust, Foxman was outspoken in his defense of the Jewish people.
