It’s never over
Wednesday, May 20 — It’s Cathy from Rough Draft with my weekly newsletter on Dunwoody. All of us at Rough Draft are a bit bleary today after a long night of monitoring election results and updating our running blog.
🥱 If you are a normal person who cares more about sleep than politics, you probably didn’t spend your night refreshing the SOS feed every two minutes to see which candidate was winning. Check out our results page here for a snapshot of those who made it through the primary and who will be participating in the June 16 runoff.
Before we get to this week’s news, here are a few events for your paper calendar.
⛺️ As hard as it is to believe, the 2025-26 school year is almost over. There are all kinds of local camps with registration slots available, including Stage Door, Spruill Center for the Arts, and Dunwoody Preservation Trust.
🚴 On May 28, starting at 11:30 a.m., the public is invited to join the Dunwoody City Council on a bike ride to lunch in Dunwoody Village. It starts at Dunwoody City Hall. The announcement specifically mentions that riders don’t have to wear spandex to participate. Seems like there is some history there.
👔 The Greater Perimeter Chamber is holding a Perimeter Young Professionals Sip & Social at the Distillery of Modern Art in Chamblee on May 28, starting at 6 p.m. Being neither young nor professional, I won’t be there, but it sounds fun. Register here.
👩🏼🦼➡️ And now let’s move on, albeit slowly,
Cathy

An unexpected delivery
🍼 Attendees at the Jewish celebration of Lag B’Omer on May 5 at Dunwoody’s Congregation Ariel gathered to pet rabbits, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, and bunnies, but got more than they bargained for when Mable the sheep suddenly gave birth to a little lamb.
Mable, according to Cricket’s Mobile Petting Zoo owner Jessica Franklin, was thought to be sterile because of an earlier infection.
The four-pound lamb was named Ariel by the congregation, which means “Lion of God” in Hebrew. She was born after an eight-minute labor, Franklin said.
👍 👎🏼 Kudos to the attentive chicken in the foreground and shame on the duck on the right for its indifference to the miracle of birth. Read more here.

🛻 Dunwoody United Methodist Church’s Kids Ministry is hosting a bookmobile, making stops at Dunwoody Elementary, Kingsley Elementary, and Pernoshal Park a few times this summer, giving away new books to families.
This is part of the church’s effort to support local families and schools by emphasizing that reading is a key component of students’ success.
