The Galloway School has named Tom Brereton to carry the school’s programs into the next era as incoming head of school. He will succeed Dr. Linda Martinson, who has been Galloway’s headmaster since 1995.
Brereton is a graduate of Cornell University (BA) and Colgate University (MA), and former head of The Miami Valley School in Dayton, Ohio. The Miami Valley School, where Brereton spent 20 years as head of school, shares Galloway’s roots in progressive educational philosophy.
“The heart and soul of a school is defined by the quality of its relationships,” Brereton said. “The respect, trust, and collaborative spirit evident at Galloway speak volumes about the heart and soul of this community.”
Martinson had announced her intention to retire as headmaster of the Galloway School at the end of this school year.
“We celebrate the growth–especially financial, physical, and operational–Dr. Martinson’s tenure has brought to our school,” said Board Chair Steve Morgan. “We’re looking forward to the fresh growth Tom’s leadership will bring to our community in the days to come.”
Brereton will become only the fourth head of school in Galloway’s history.
