Passers-by may notice Sandy Springs Fire Station 1 at the corner of Spalding Drive and Roberts Drive is outfitted with a new sign and drought-tolerant garden. The sign was installed by the City of Sandy Springs, but the garden is the work of the Spalding Garden Club. Member Diane Wilkes set the project in motion.
In addition to funds donated by the garden club, neighborhood associations, individuals, and area agencies contributed. Lee Dunn and Jan Hedrick plan to create informational materials that will be available at the fire station for members of the community to learn more about draught tolerant gardening. Master Gardeners, Alice O’Neil, Phyllis Reetz and Carole McWilliams assisted Wilkes in selecting plants for the site.
