Maybe it is because I am 67 years old, but I believe there is much to be said about honoring old traditions.

Banks and Shane have been one of Atlanta’s and Sandy Springs’ favorite entertainment groups—a tradition if you will. Banks Burgess and Paul Shane and their band began performing in Atlanta in August, 1972.

They performed in the late 1970s in a Sandy Springs club called Timothy John’s on Carpenter Drive. They owned and operated one of the area’s most popular restaurant/supper clubs, Banks & Shane’s in Sandy Springs and Underground Atlanta from 1983 to 1992. They have been, in short, a Sandy Springs tradition.

I have followed them since the late 1970s, when Shane was my neighbor in a Gwinnett County neighborhood.

They performed June 1 at the first of this year’s Concerts by the Springs at the Entertainment Lawn at Heritage Green, kicking off year two of the concerts that are becoming another Sandy Springs tradition.
