Created at Georgia Tech, the Solar D House will open for tours on Saturday, Oct 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tellus Museum in Cartersville. The 800-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bath, steel-framed structure (complete with plush interiors by Herman Miller) runs completely on solar power. To mark the opening, there will also be Solar, Wind and Hydro-electric mini car racing and the premier of “Heart of the Sun” show in the Tellus Planetarium every 45 minutes. Experts will be giving tours of the house and other experts will be talking about energy savings. www.weinmanmuseum.org.

Trees Atlanta will hold its 10^th annual Tree Sale on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Trees Atlanta Kendeda Center, 225 Chester Ave. from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Trees Atlanta donors of $500 or more are invited to attend a preview shopping night the evening before the Tree Sale. Each October, Trees Atlanta offers more than 1,000 plants including 200 species of trees, shrubs and tree-friendly vines for purchase by the public. EarthShare of Georgia has launched its new and improved website, www.earthsharega.org. Designed and conceived by Realm Advertising, the website will feature EarthShare of Georgia Member Groups and the important work they do to conserve and protect the environment. The website has been refocused to include more information on how to start an employee giving campaign to benefit EarthShare of Georgia’s 62 member groups. There is also detailed information on all of the ESGA campaign partners, member groups, and ESGA’s three major Earth Day events in April.

Renewal Design Build and the Decatur Library, 215 Sycamore St., are co-hosting a series of free “Make Your Home Green” seminars on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 14, both at 10 a.m. The October event will focus on how green improvements and tax credits can save homeowners money. The Atlanta Botantical Garden is encouraging visitor to check out its $55 million expansion designed by Atlanta-based architects Jova/Daniels/Busby to be LEED certified and conserve 30 percent more energy. New amenities include a 9,300 square foot Visitor Center, a 252,000 square foot parking facility and expanded gardens. www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org.

Artlite Office Supply has made its shipping green by eliminating the use of cardboard boxes for deliveries. All shipments are now made in reusable  plastic crates. The Artlite delivery person will unpack the order, while verifying the order, and takes the crate back with him. www.artlite.net.
