Cox Enterprises Inc. plans to build a 600,000-square-foot office complex near the company’s headquarters in Sandy Springs.
Cox said the new building will house the technology department of Cox Communications, a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises.
Cox did not say how many employees would work in the new building, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, another Cox property, said more than 1,000 employees are expected to work in the new facility.
The new building is scheduled to open in 2012, Cox said. Construction is expected to begin later this year. Cousins Properties Inc. will develop the project, Cox said.
The building will be located on Cox’s 28-acre Central Park campus, where the company’s 16-story headquarters now is located.
“Our company’s growth necessitates the construction of additional facilities,” said Marybeth Leamer, executive vice president of Cox Enterprises. “We’re excited to further develop our Central Park campus.”
With completion of the new building, Cox will house several major operations in or near Sandy Springs.
More than 100,000 people work in the area, which contains more than 28 million square feet of office space, the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts says.
