To the Editor:

I went by the house my wife and I had moved from to get the mail one last time, and I happened to pick up the Aug. 21-Sept. 3, 2009 issue of the Sandy Springs Reporter. As I flipped through it, I saw the article on Carlton Washington, Standout Student at Cross Keys High School.

I work at Georgia Tech as the director of the Office of Special Scholarships, so I was very interested to read about this talented young man. I got in touch with his counselor and principal, and they helped me reach out to Carlton. We invited him to visit campus, and he applied to Georgia Tech in time to be considered for our top merit scholarship program. He was one of 6,850 applicants, and he won a President’s Scholarship, the top award for entering freshmen!

If it wasn’t for the Reporter, I may not have learned about Carlton, and he may not have won a merit scholarship to Georgia Tech.

Thank you for your help in making this happen!
