INtown High FiveIt’s Halloween weekend, so watch out for little gremlins — errr, kids — going door door to browbeating hard working adults into giving them free food (hat tip to Sue Sylvester). Seriously, though, there are activities galore this weekend and here’s five you shouldn’t miss.

1. How dreadful: Celebrate the spooky season at The Center for Puppetry Arts with macabre music, ghost stories and more as part of The Ghastly Dreadfuls this weekend. This show is recommended for ages 16 and up, no one under 14 admitted.

Howl-O-Ween2. Kibble and bits: Atlantic Station is hosting its annual Howl-o-Ween festival on Saturday where kids and dogs can dress up to win prizes. There will also be activities, entertainment and trick-or-treating.

3. Fear the mustache: Bring the kids to the High Museum on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. for Dali-ween, which will include storytelling, activities and crafting a Salvador Dali-inspired mask. Children who come in costume get in free!

4. Everyone loves a ball: Put on the Ritz and your masquerade mask for the Atlanta Halloween Ball at the Fox Theatre on Saturday at 8 p.m. There will be music, dancing, comedy, magic and unlimited cocktails. Tickets are $125 per person. Proceeds benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Natasha Trethewey5. Hush, hush…keep it down now… For something a little less scary, Poetry Atlanta presents its annual Voices Carry reading Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Sycamore Place Gallery. The free event will feature Pulitzer Prize winner Natasha Trethewey (pictured left), Cecilia Woloch, Patrick Donnelly, M. Ayodele Heath and INtown’s own Collin Kelley.

Collin Kelley is the executive editor of Atlanta Intown, Georgia Voice, and the Rough Draft newsletter. He has been a journalist for nearly four decades and is also an award-winning poet and novelist.
