A professional football player will be in town to host Carnival Day at the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club June 24.

Rennie Curran, a linebacker for the Tennessee Titans and a former University of Georgia Bulldogs star, will talk to kids about giving back to the community.

A 1990’s Brookhaven Club Alumnus, Curran wanted to help his local Boys & Girls Club.

“I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the experience and lessons I learned while attending the Boys & Girls Club,” Curran said. “This is why I feel it is important to give back to the kids currently there, so that they may learn the lessons I learned and have the opportunities that were allotted to me.”

Curran will join Miss Liberia/Miss West African Mahaja Zeon to talk about the importance of philanthropy.

In honor of philanthropy week at Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club, Club members will hold children’s book, school supplies and clothing drive from June 20 to June 24 which they will donate to Liberian children.

From 10 a.m. to noon, club members will host a presentation on Liberia followed by speeches from Curran and Zeon. Following lunch, the carnival festivities will begin and last until 5 p.m.
