City Councilman Howard Shook, who represents a portion of Buckhead, released a statement attacking a plan to extend Atlanta bar hours to 4 a.m.
Shook pledged to defeat “as quickly as possible” what he called legislation “with demonstrably dangerous consequences.” Bars now close at 2:30 a.m.
“Are you interested in reliving the weekly nightmare of impassable streets, noise, trash, and crime (including, predictably, shootouts and stabbings) that defined our last period of pre-dawn closing hours? When the police who should have been patrolling our homes and businesses were instead babysitting those who believed themselves entitled to indulge in taxpayer-supported carousing and violence,” Shook wrote. “Me, neither.”
The proposal was introduced by City Councilman Kwanza Hall.
