The DeKalb County District Attorney’s office on Oct. 4 announced the DeKalb County Grand Jury has indicted Kristina Hambie, 25, a former DeKalb County Police Officer, on counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving and violation of oath by a public officer. The charges stem from a Feb. 19 incident that killed Cheryl Blount Burton, 51, and Shelley Amos, 56.

It is alleged that Hambie was driving 30 miles an hour more than the posted speed limit in the Avondale area when her police car struck another vehicle carrying the victims.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Kensington Road and Covington Highway.  Hambie was on duty at the time of the incident, the District Attorney’s office said.

“Two people lost their lives because of the actions of Kristina Hambie,” said District Attorney Robert James in a press release. “She has been ordered to surrender herself to authorities by Monday, October 10.”
