The widening of Roswell Road Bridge over I-285 could start any time from January to April, depending on whom a person asks.
Mark McKinnon, spokesman for the Georgia Department of Transportation, said utilities are being relocated, but the public won’t see any real construction until January.
Sandy Springs spokeswoman Sharon Kraun said there was a pre-construction meeting with the contractor, C.W. Matthews Contracting, in July and said the utility relocation should be done by the end of the year. An earlier press release on the city’s website indicated construction could actually begin in July and would be completed in October 2012.
McKinnon said in September it will be completed in December 2012.
Kraun referred all construction questions to GDOT.
Various media outlets have reported construction dates from July to March. In a July Rotary Club meeting, City Manager John McDonough warned residents they would soon see delays from the bridge widening. The Georgia DOT website itself further clouds the issue.
It lists the project’s status as “deferred.”
McKinnon said he was unsure why the project status on the website would show it was deferred. He said technically the project has started if one counts the utility work.
“So, officially the project has started. It’s just that folks won’t see much as far as real construction until January,” McKinnon said. “Until then, it will just be utility work.”
