The Sandy Springs rotary club recently named Sandy Springs Police Officer Curley Sparks as its 2011 “Officer of the Year” for his acts of heroism.
According to the Sandy Springs Police Department, “He evacuated a resident of a burning apartment building on North River Drive. The resident, who had been overcome with smoke, was unable to flee the residence. Sparks and another resident helped the woman from the building, which later burned to the ground.”
Lieutenant David Roskind was also selected as “Commander of the Year” for his work on several technology projects throughout the year, the Police Department reported.
