The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners agreed Oct. 25 to defer a vote on a resolution requesting a moratorium on the creation of new cities in DeKalb County while the state creates a study committee on annexation and incorporation.
The resolution, proposed by District 2 Commissioner Jeff Rader, would ask the Georgia Legislature to study the impact new municipalities would have on the county.
The commissioners deferred the resolution without comment.
The resolution could potentially affect efforts to create a city of Brookhaven. The Citizens for North DeKalb, a group of residents interested in the possibility of a city of Brookhaven, have commissioned a feasibility study on the issue. The study is expected to be complete in early November.
The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners will discuss the resolution in November.
