According to unofficial results from DeKalb County, Mayoral candidates Mike Davis and Bob Dallas are headed to a runoff election, while two parks bond proposals were overwhelmingly defeated Nov. 8. Also, incumbent Post 4 Councilman Robert Wittenstein be in a run off with challenger Terry Nall. A runoff election will be held Dec. 6.
Dallas said, “We’ll continue to reach out to supporters and we have between now and Dec. 6 to make it over the line, and I know we will.”
Davis said, “I’ve got four weeks of hard work ahead of me. We’re in it to win.”
Both men also chimed in on the defeat of the parks bonds.
Dallas said, “We still have to have a conversation about what the city wants to do with parks. Our next step is to develop community consensus about where we want to be. What can we do to have them meet the needs of our citizens within our budget?
Davis said, “I think the most important thing is it looks like those park bonds went down in flames. It’s indicative of the entire country’s attitude on tax increases. The government needs to learn to run itself without tax increases.”
In Post 4, both candidates said they liked their chances in the upcoming runoff.
“It would have been nice to win hands down,” Wittenstein said. “With a three person race, it was probably inevitable there would be a runoff, but I’m still confident that my chances are great for eventually winning.”
Nall said, ” It was great news for sure. I’m delighted so many people came out to vote. I couldn’t be more pleased to be in the lead. The campaign is energized, we look forward to a spirited debate on the issues. We’re ready to go to the next level.”
Lynn Deutsch, who won the Post 5 seat, said, “I’m very excited to have the opportunity to represent all of Dunwoody. I’m thrilled. I had a lot of people that worked very hard for tonight to happen, and I’m grateful.”
