Nirupama Rao, India’s Ambassador to the United States, addresses members of the Kettering Executive Network at UPS headquarters on March 2

Top executives from around metro Atlanta visited the UPS headquarters in Sandy Springs on March 2 to hear India’s ambassador to the United States, Nirupama Rao, talk about the important relationship between the two countries.

It was also an opportunity for Sandy Springs to show off its hospitality in a year when the city is working hard to grow its economic base. Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos presented the ambassador with a key to the city and called meeting with Rao a “great honor.”

Rao said the relationship between the two countries has dramatically changed and said there is an increased investment of Indian companies in the U.S.

“We are now strategic partners,” she said. “The list of what we have achieved together is vast and it is growing.”

Rao said companies from India invested $25.5 billion in the U.S. between 2005 and 2009. According to the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, 12 Indian firms have a presence in Georgia.

“Indian companies have invested in a wide array of fields,” Rao said.

The event was hosted by the Kettering Executive Network, a group of high-level executives from Fortune 500 companies in the metro Atlanta area.
