The City of Sandy Springs proclaimed March 6 Sandy Springs Education Force Day in honor of the group’s work to improve local schools. The group received the honor at the March 6 City Council meeting.

This honor recognized SSEF for its continuous work to inspire and support all Sandy Springs public school students to graduate and pursue productive lives by providing educational and enrichment programs through community collaboratives. Mayor Eva Galambos acknowledged the partnership between Sandy Springs Education Force (SSEF), Art Sandy Springs (ArtSS) and Friends of the Sandy Springs Library (FOSSL) to bring the first annual “Sandy Springs Reads!” to our community. Dr. Avossa, Fulton County School Superintendent, Dr. Ava Wilensky, SSEF Chair, and Irene Schweiger, SSEF Executive Director accepted the honor.

“We have been fortunate to be able to reach over 3000 students in our public schools through programs that enrich their education and their future,” said Irene Schweiger. “Being recognized by our Mayor and City Council is so meaningful to our work in our community.”

The Mayor was presented with a copy of the Rocket Boys by Candace Apple and Marsha Holcomb, highlighting the exciting upcoming community literacy-focused partnership.
