Sandy Springs firefighters spent the morning of Monday, March 12, putting out an apartment fire that displaced several residents.

There were no injuries or fatalities.

According to Deputy Chief Jeff Scarbrough, the department responded to a call at 9:52 a.m. from Provence North Apartments at 6558 Roswell Road, building No. 7. Scarbrough said crews put out the initial fire within 15 minutes, but ran into problems chasing pockets of fire throughout the building.

“Because the structure was built in the 1960s and had a lot of confined spaces. We had to pull sheet rock, pull ceilings and find the pockets,” Scarbrough said. “We had to chase those pockets for a long time.”

The fire displaced residents of six units and the Red Cross is working with them to find shelter, Scarbrough said.

Scarbrough said the department does not yet know the cause of the fire.
