Garden Hills residents are planning to replace the 1980s A-frame pool house at the Garden Hills Pool with a new $750,000 building.
David Kirshtein, president of the Garden Hills Pool and Park Association, won approval for the association’s plan from Neighborhood Planning Unit-B on March 6.
“The neighborhood is firmly in support of the building of the facility,” Kirshtein said later. “It’s something that needs to be done.”
The new pool house is designed to take in 4,500 square feet. It will include air-conditioned areas, child-friendly and Americans for Disability Act-compliant bathrooms, improved concession facilities and a new community meeting room, the association said in a presentation on the proposed facility.
“It’s good for the neighborhood, good for the city and we think it’s the right thing to do to provide a quality recreation facility,” Kirshtein said.
Kirshtein told NPU members that the association plans to pay for the project through contributions from the community and grants from foundations. The association operates the city-owned pool for the city.
Construction on the new pool house won’t begin until the group has raised the money to pay for it, Kirshtein said. The group hopes to begin work in the fall, but could delay until next year, he said.
