Dunwoody High School Assistant Principal Tom Bass has resigned, according to a letter to parents from the Dunwoody High School Council.

The letter, which was posted to Dunwoody City Councilman John Heneghan’s blog, aims to convince parents that there is no reason to worry about the recent departure of two of the school’s top officials.

In the letter, school council members said that Bass resigned to take a job closer to his home before the reassignment of Principal Rodney Swanson was announced. However, Bass has now applied for the principal position at Dunwoody High School, the letter says.

The School Council was notified May 18 that the DeKalb County school system has directed  Swanson to serve as the principal of Arabia Mountain High School next year.

“Mr. Swanson did not ask for this re-assignment,” the letter states. “He is being moved as part of a large shuffle of principals by DCSS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Atkinson. This is not done to ‘punish’ Dunwoody – our new superintendent does not work that way.”

The school system has not named Swanson’s replacement.
