A portion of Brandon Mill Road from Abernathy Road to Brandon Ridge Drive, will be closed for up to two months beginning on July 16 so the Georgia Department of Transportation can lower the height of the road.

Residents affected by the widening of widening of Johnson Ferry and Abernathy roads have grumbled about the pace of the project and by safety issues caused by the work there.

Concerns about the grade of Brandon Mill Road being too high at the road’s intersection with River Springs Drive prompted GDOT to agree to the changes, at no cost to the city Councilman Chip Collins said.

“I know this will cause great inconvenience for many of you, but it is unavoidable, and it will wind up being a good long-term solution for this intersection,” Collins told constituents in an email.

The city says, The River Springs Drive entrance next to Abernathy Road will be closed to all traffic. Brandon Ridge Drive will be accessible from the North end on Brandon Mill Road, the city says.

The city will place signage detouring traffic to Riverside Drive, Johnson Ferry Road and back to Abernathy Road.
