Midtown Alliance has benen awarded the E3 Power of Place Award for the organization’s leadership efforts in developing Greenprint Midtown and the creation of the Southeast’s first urban EcoDistrict.
Presented by the Metro Atlanta Chamber in partnership with the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the E3 award highlights companies, organizations, universities and individuals using innovative approaches to conserve metro Atlanta’s natural resources while improving the economy. The award focuses on such strategies as clean technologies, sustainable start-ups, solar energy, energy and water conservation, green buildings and strong partnerships.
The Greenprint Midtown plan has provided a framework to bring the community together to continue to advance Midtown as an innovative, interconnected, and resource-efficient community – an EcoDistrict. Today, EcoDistricts are being created throughout the United States and the world from Portland, Oregon to Malmo, Sweden.
EcoDistricts link green buildings with smart infrastructure and behavior change at a district scale to drive innovation and economic development. EcoDistricts improve the environment and make economic sense, making Midtown more competitive and attractive to investors, businesses, employees, residents and visitors.
“The award is a great validation of the hard work Midtown Alliance and our partners have put into the creation of the Midtown EcoDistrict over the last year,” said Kevin Green, CEO of Midtown Alliance. “Creating the Greenprint plan was just the first step in a multi-pronged approach to ensure Midtown is clean and green for years to come.”
Green said Midtown is making good progress on numerous fronts including supporting greater energy efficiency and conservation in commercial and residential buildings through the Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge, growing its rainwater harvesting systems, integrating recycling into streetscapes, improving transit access and mobility and adding to the more than 20 miles of new streetscapes and bike lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.
