Beginning next week, watching a Brookhaven City Council meeting won’t require a trip to municipal court.

The city plans to stream City Council’s meetings on the Internet starting May 28.

New software allows viewers to watch the council’s meetings live on a computer via the city website. All videos will be archived on the website and tagged to links within the meeting agenda to make it easier for viewers to skip to specific portions of the video footage, according to a news release from the city.

“Now residents can participate in their city government from the comfort of their own living room,” Mayor J. Max Davis said. “It also allows our residents to stay connected while they are out of town via their smart phone. I’m excited about offering another way to stay informed and involved with our new city.”

The  software will also enable people to view how each council member voted agenda items in real time, as well as track each council member’s sponsoring legislation.
