Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos

Georgia House Speaker David Ralston has appointed Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos to the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust, according to a press release.

Galambos, who is finishing her second term as Sandy Springs Mayor, was elected as the city’s first mayor in 2005.

The Commission on the Holocaust was created to educate residents about the dangers of prejudice.

Galambos, who is Jewish, knows the danger well. Her father relocated her family from Germany to Italy, and then from Italy to America, during the 1930s to escape Hitler and fascism.

The mayor holds numerous degrees and was instrumental in the formation of Sandy Springs, which incorporated in 2005.
