A clerk at the Exxon gas station on 1161 Ponce de Leon Avenue (at the corner of Moreland Avenue) was shot during a suspected armed robbery attempt early this morning, July 23. According to Officer K.Y. Jones with the Atlanta Police Department, the clerk had an apparent gunshot wound to his side and could not tell police much more than he had been shot. A witness who was outside the store advised police that he had seen two black males enter the store, and then flee after hearing a gunshot.

After a review of store surveillance, APD were able to determine that two black males possibly came to the location in a white four door sedan with tinted windows. One of the males pointed a gun at the store clerk, but when the clerk started to back up, he was shot once in the side. The shooter appeared uneasy handling the gun, and both males fled the scene before taking anything. Both men were seen running south on Moreland Ave, but possibly had a vehicle waiting for them in the parking lot just south of the Exxon.

Officer Jones said the clerk, identified as Jack Alieu, was transported to Grady in stable condition.
