The Dunwoody Charter Commission is scheduled to meet July 31.

Several previous meetings of the commission have drawn standing-room-only crowds. Fifty or more people crowded into the July 17 meeting. To accommodate the crowd, the commission moved its July 17 meeting from City Hall to a meeting room in a nearby office building, 47 Perimeter Center East. The meeting July 31 again is scheduled to be held in Suite 400 in 47 Perimeter Center East.

Members of the crowd who spoke at several recent meetings have objected to suggestions that the city charter be amended to accommodate a possible city takeover of fire services from DeKalb County. Speakers objected to fire services takeover without a vote of approval from city residents.

The months-long review of the city’s charter, the basic document of city operations, is required by the charter itself as the city turns 5. The five-member commission will report any changes it feels are needed to the state Legislature. Any changes would be made by state lawmakers.

Each member of the commission was appointed to represent a different individual or group. The three state legislators who represent portions of Dunwoody each named a commissioner. Dunwoody City Council named the fourth member and Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis named the fifth.

The July 31 meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. To see the agenda, go to
