Last Saturday, we posted an article about Fulton County Animal Services waiving adoption fees on cats because of overcrowding. That article went viral on Reddit, was shared 5,000+ times on Facebook, got posted on Craigslist and sent our website traffic through the roof.
LifeLine Animal Project, which operates shelter services for FCAS, said the publicity had been amazing. “We adopted out 60 cats this week, compared to 10 last week, and we’ve had people waiting in line to adopt cats almost every day this week,” said Karen Hirsch, communications director for Lifeline.
Now FCAS is turning its attention to the overcrowding situation with dogs. “We’ve got more than twice as many dogs as our shelter was meant to hold, so from August 6 to 12, we’ll be offering any dog that has been at the shelter for three or more weeks for only $20, which includes spaying or neutering, vaccines and a microchip,” Hirsch said. “We’re doing this for the same reason – to avoid euthanizing adoptable dogs.”
