Midtown Alliance president and CEO Kevin Green said today that the organization and City of Atlanta are exploring signaling options at 10th Street and Charles Allen Drive since the opening of the 10th Street Cycle Track. The dedicated bike lane has reduced westbound traffic on 10th Street to one lane for vehicular traffic from Monroe to Charles Allen.
There have been motorist complaints of traffic jams as cars try to turn left on Charles Allen from 10th. Midtown Patch posted a story about the complaints on Aug. 26 and the debate in the comments section has been lively.
“The cycle track is new and it will take some getting used to, but we are aware of the traffic and are looking at a number of options,” Green said. “We hope to have signal improvements on or by Sept. 16 at 10th and Monroe.”
The 10th Street Cycle Track, which connects to the Atlanta BeltLine, will eventually stretch to Peachtree Street.
