The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Pop Up Tour returns to Atlanta for the second year in a row at AMC Madison Yards from Oct 24-25.
The American Black Film Festival, which is based in Miami Beach, first started its Pop Up Tour last year as a way to expand the festival’s reach. The company behind the festival is the live events company NICE CROWD, and the tour is presented nationally by its founding sponsor, Ally Financial.
According to a press release, the tour will also run through Washington D.C., New York, and Houston.
The lineup for the tour’s stop in Atlanta will include a screenwriting masterclass with instructor Randall Dottin on Oct. 24. On Oct. 25, there will be another workshop called Built to Last: Your Money Story, Your Legacy.
On Oct. 24, the AARP will present a Classic Cinema Series that spotlights iconic films that have shaped Black cinema and culture. The films are yet to be announced.
On Oct. 24 at 8:45 p.m., the tour will present the 2026 HBO Short Film Award Showcase, complete with a talkback. The program will spotlight the five finalists for the award: “Spilled Milk,” written and directed by Jared Leaf; “We Had Fun,” written and directed by Linda Lô; “Facade,” written and directed by Modupe Thompson; “The Truth About Space,” written and directed by Jeremiah Towolawi; and “FLY,” written and directed by Carlton Daniel Jr.
On Oct. 25, the festival will present a screening of the anthology film “Three Colors: Pan-African,” the winner of the 2026 American Black Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature. Drawing inspiration from Krzysztof Kieślowski’s “Three Colors” trilogy, the film is directed by Elijah Davis, Allison A. Waite, and Tyler Ocasio Holmes. The 2026 festival’s Directing Award winner “Otra,” from director Armani Ortiz, will also screen.
The film “Funny Feelings,” directed by Rhonda Baraka, will also screen on Oct. 25. “Funny Feelings” was a nominee for both the American Black Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature and the Directing Award for Best Narrative Feature.
