A vote by the Atlanta Zoning Review Board (ZRB) to recommend legislation to rezone property at 800 Glenwood Avenue to prevent a giant retail shopping center was voided yesterday, Aug. 28, by the the city’s Zoning Committee.
More than 600 people turned out for the Aug. 8 meeting when the ZRB recommended that legislation proposed by Atlanta City Councilwoman Carla Smith to rezone the property located on the Atlanta BeltLine from light industrial to multi-family residential to stop the Fuqua Development project, which is rumored to be a Walmart.
According to a report posted on the Grant Park Neighborhood Association website, only 80 people were in attendance for yesterday’s Zoning Committee meeting. After an executive session with city lawyers, it was determined that the Aug. 8 vote was done incorrectlyΒ by the ZRB committee members, so it is now null and void and considered a vote of “no recommendation” from ZRB.
During the ZRB meeting, there were 2 votes for support, 1 vote of no support, 2 abstentions and 3 members did not vote. The members who didn’t vote were the issue and caused the result to be lacking the necessary amount of votes for a real vote.
The Atlanta City Council is expected to take up the 800 Glenwood rezoning at its Sept. 3 meeting at 1 p.m. at City Hall.
