(CBS ATLANTA, Reporter Newspapers broadcast partner) –

An elderly woman and her son were killed in a fire at a Sandy Springs townhouse early Monday, Sept. 9, according to investigators in the Fulton County medical examiner’s office.

Three firefighters also suffered minor injuries. By the afternoon of Sept. 9, the firefighters were “doing well” and resting at home, Assistant Chief Mark Duke reported by email.

The victims, a man believed to be around 50 years old and a woman believed to be in her late 80s or early 90s, were pulled from the burning home just before 1 a.m., firefighters said.

The unit is located in a small cluster of townhouses known as River Rill, located on North River Parkway.
