The saga of North Atlanta High’s leadership woes continues.
In the latest chapter, Principal Howard “Gene” Taylor has decided to stay with Atlanta Public Schools but not as principal of North Atlanta High. Instead, Taylor will be promoted to executive director of the North Region which oversees all schools in the North Atlanta cluster. Assistant North Atlanta Principal Curtis Douglass will serve as interim principal. The current executive director, Tony Burks, will move into a new role as principal mentor.
The surprise announcement came late Monday afternoon in a letter from Superintendent Erroll Davis to parents, students and staff.
“APS is pleased that we were able to retain a talented employee,” the letter reads. “We will continue to update the community with details about the transition as they become available.”
Taylor on Friday announced his intention to resign in December for another job in Gwinnett. Reporter Newspapers will provide more details as they become available.
