The Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department was honored by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) District 6 for its outstanding achievements, including its annual holiday event.
At the Oct. 27 meeting, the Brookhaven City Council celebrated the two awards bestowed by GRPA: Agency of the Year (population category of 40,001–80,000) and Special Event of the Year for Holidays in the Haven.
The Agency of the Year award recognizes the department’s commitment to providing high-quality recreational programs, well maintained parks and pools, and unforgettable community experiences for Brookhaven residents, according to a release from the city.

The Special Event of the Year awards recognized Holidays in the Haven, which began in 2024 with the introduction of the ice-skating rink at Brookhaven Park. Holidays in the Haven returns this year on Dec. 19.
“We are thankful and proud to have a Parks and Recreation department that care for our parks and programming for residents,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Park. “Now is the perfect season to get ready for Holidays in the Haven and experience what makes it the Special Event of the Year.”
