The cost to build the new Falcons stadium has increased to $1.2 billion, up $200 million from the original estimate. According to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Falcons attribute the costs to the design of the building, which includes a retractable roof and state-of-the-art video, surrounding road work and acquisition costs for the “south” site proper in Downtown.

The Falcons wound up paying $19.5 million for the Friendship Baptist Church property and $14.5 million for Friendship Baptist Church property to build on the preferred south site near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. and Northside drives.
