The organizers of the Great Atlanta Pot Festival and a Candler Park neighborhood organization are tussling over dates to use the park in 2014, according to a report in East Atlanta Patch.
After nine years, the SweetWater 420 Festival recently announced it was leaving Candler Park for Centennial Olympic Park in Downtown for more space and easier access for visitors. The Great Atlanta Pot Festival – which has been held at Piedmont and Freedom parks in the past – quickly sought approval from the City of Atlanta to hold its event in Candler Park on April 19-20.
The Pot Festival organizers received permission for April 20, but were notified that Friends of Candler Park had already applied and received permission to use the park on April 19 for its annual Movie Night series. The Coalition for the Abolition of Marijuana Prohibition (CAMP), which puts on the Pot Festival, claims the neighborhood group has sewn up weekend dates at the park so outside festivals and groups can’t use it.
CAMP’s national coordinator, Paul D. Cornwell II, has threatened legal action against Friends of Candler Park.
