Atlanta Track Club has awarded $166,900 to 25 local nonprofit organizations that participated in the Adopt a Marathon Mile program at the 2013 Atlanta Marathon and 10-Miler in October. Five of the 25 participating organizations were awarded the top donation of $7,500. Briar Vista Elementary PTO also took home an additional $500 as “Participant Favorite,” an honor awarded based on participant feedback in a post-event survey.
“Our Adopt a Marathon Mile program continues to expand each year. We had more organizations than ever provide energy, excitement and motivation along the course for the participants of the 2013 Atlanta Marathon and 10-Miler,” said Sue Payne, Atlanta Track Club interim executive director. “We are delighted to give back to other nonprofit organizations that share our mission to encourage health and fitness in the metro Atlanta community.”
Donation amounts varied based on the level of participation from each organization. Volunteer requirements for participating nonprofits included a minimum of 15 volunteers to assist Atlanta Track Club at the water stops and a minimum of 15 spectators and cheerleaders in each “cheer zone.”
