The developers of a boutique bowling establishment planned for Buckhead say they’ve prevailed in a fight with a local merchants group.
The Miami Circle Merchants Association had appealed a special application permit for the Painted Pin. The Painted Pin is a “boutique bowling” establishment planned for 727 Miami Circle. The Merchants Association said the business didn’t have enough parking spaces because it was granted the SAP as an entertainment complex. The Merchants Association says the business should be treated as a restaurant under city zoning codes.
The city of Atlanta Board of Zoning Adjustments ruled in favor of the Painted Pin during a hearing on Dec. 5, according to a press release.
“There has been a lot of incorrect and irrelevant information released about The Painted Pin from a very small group of vocal leaders of the MCMA (Miami Circle Merchants Association),” Justin Amick, Principal & Founder of The Painted Pin, said in the press release. “This is simply an issue of traditionalists trying to control the types of businesses that land on their street veiled as a parking issue. Miami Circle is entirely a commercial zone, and bowling alleys are an allowable use in this sub area in which we meet 100 percent of the code requirements. We are pleased the facts spoke for themselves this entire appeal process. We have successfully completed permitting with the city of Atlanta including our SAP (Special Administrative Permit), building permit and demo permit. We are excited to finally build this dream into a reality and look forward to breaking ground in the immediate future. We are going to be the best neighbors possible to all the surrounding businesses and hope to further solidify Miami Circle as a unique destination for Atlantans.”
The Painted Pin will open in spring of 2014, the press release says.
