Brookhaven has found new locations for its city hall and police headquarters, Mayor J. Max Davis said.

City officials are looking to lease a former Georgia State University building at 4362 Peachtree Road for use as a city office building.  Brookhaven City Hall is currently located in an office building in Dunwoody.

“We’re very excited about it,” Davis said.  “The one bonus of the Georgia State location is that nobody in Brookhaven will have to drive more than three miles to get to it. The geographic center of the city is about 100 yards away from this location. This was very important to all of us.”

The Brookhaven Police Department is to be located at 2665 Buford Highway, which formerly housed the Latin American Association, Davis said.

Davis said the details of deals are still being worked out. He would not disclose the cost of the facilities.

“These are verbal agreements,” Davis said.

The new facilities will not be permanent. The city is not purchasing the space.

“Our plan is to have a three-to-five-to-six-year plan for our next location and find a place where a development would like to pitch in and have some civic space and eventually go to a place like that,” Davis said. “This is not intended to be long-term location of our City Hall.”

The new locations for the city hall and police department were announced in a newsletter mailed to residents. Some residents of Ashford Park received the letter in the mail Dec. 7. Most other Brookhaven residents will get it in the mail Dec. 9.

Davis said he chose to announce the news that way so it would come straight from Brookhaven officials instead of reported by media.

“It’s important for us to communicate with our city directly,” Davis said. “Sometimes it’s important that our citizens get big news and good news directly from their city.”
