The counter at Little’s in Cabbagetown.

Little’s Food Store on Carroll Street in Cabbagetown is an icon of the neighborhood. Opened in 1929 to serve the residents and workers clustered around the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill (now The Stacks lofts), the store was in continuous operation by the Little family until 2006.

Brad and Nina Cunard loved the business so much that they bought it so there would be a community store to pop in for milk, bread and other staples. The lunch counter, serving up what some call the best tasting burgers in the city, is also popular.

But structural issues with the old building have put Little’s future in jeopardy. An Indiegogo campaign to raise $20,000 for building repairs is nearing $15,000 in donations. You can make a donation at this link and watch the video above to find out more about the history of this local business.
